Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia with the Prime Minister of Romania

01 jul, 2025

On April 4 in Bucharest Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă received Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

The interlocutors touched upon possibilities of expanding the cooperation between the two countries in various fields, noting that the official visit organized at the level of the Foreign Minister after a long break can be an important impetus in that direction. Both sides emphasized the need to make joint efforts towards economic cooperation and the development of business ties. In this context, they also stressed the importance of the format of the Armenia-Romania intergovernmental joint commission.

Views were exchanged on the expanding Armenia-EU cooperation which is based on common values. The EU's support for democratic reforms and the development agenda in Armenia as well as the deployment of the EU Civilian Monitoring Mission on the Armenia-Azerbaijan international border were commended. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the Romanian side for their support to the implementation of the mission.

During the meeting, Ararat Mirzoyan and Nicolae Ciucă also exchanged views on regional issues.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed the Prime Minister of Romania on the security situation in the South Caucasus. Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor and the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, gross violations of other provisions of the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020 as well as aggressions against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and maximalist rhetoric disrupt the efforts of the Armenian side to establish peace and security in the region.

The inadmissibility of the use of force or the threat of the use of force and the need to address all issues through the peace process were emphasized.
